Motorway cameras captured the moment an air ambulance landed on the M62 this evening at the site of a three car crash.

One car had flipped onto its side and police closed the motorway in both directions near to the Croft Interchange for almost two hours.

he accident happened near junction 10 at around 5.30pm this evening.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said earlier that only minor injuries had been reported from the scene.

No further details of any possible casualties have been released.

The police spokesman said: “Emergency services have been sent to the scene of a three vehicle collision close to J10 of the M62.

“One vehicle has overturned on the road but it is believed only minor injuries have been sustained by the passengers.

“The air ambulance has landed merely as a precaution but drivers should expect delays while the road is cleared.”

Motorway Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue and the North West Ambulance Service attended the scene of the accident.

North West Motorway Police tweeted at 5.40pm: “J10 lane 1 of 2 blocked and vehicle overturned. Police & @CheshireFire attending. Delays building. “

Highways England tweeted that drivers should expected a one hour delay shortly before 7pm: “Please plan ahead. Traffic remains held on #M62 westbound, and two lanes remain closed on the eastbound within J10 due to serious incident.”

Both sides of the motorway were released by police at around 7.15pm after the air ambulance left the scene but motorists were still be warned of delays.

According to travel site INRIX traffic was held on M62 Eastbound at 19:05 for several minutes for the air ambulance to take off from the opposite carriageway.

INRIX is reporting congestion in the area and drivers should expect delays on M62 at J10 and surrounding areas.
