A man that Indiana State Police investigators were searching for in connection to the deaths of three people in Washington County has been found dead in his truck.

Shortly after 8 a.m. Monday, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department got a tip at 47-year-old Richard Lee Burton Jr. was parked at the Blackwell Horse Camp near Ind. 446.

When police approached the vehicle, they saw Burton’s body inside. Official confirmation will be made by the Monroe County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation into the three people slain at a home in rural Washington County continues, but police believe that Burton was responsible for the deaths of all three victims, according to a news release.

“If information is discovered that changes this belief, Indiana State Police Detectives will obviously follow those leads,” said an ISP statement.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Indiana State Police are seeking the public’s help as they work to track down a man in connection to the slaying of three people in a rural southern Indiana home.

According to an ISP news release, a deputy from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department was called to do a welfare check at a home in the 5800 block South Beck’s Mill Road around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The home is about 110 miles south of Indianapolis.

The investigation began when a caller worried about the well-being of the occupants of the residence contacted police.

THREE DEAD ON WEST SIDE: Victims identified in triple homicide

A deputy arrived at the home and began knocking on the door, police said. As he knocked, he noticed a dead body inside of the residence. Additional officers arrived at the scene, and a search of the home led to officials locating two more bodies. It is unclear how long the victims were dead before being discovered by police.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Department then requested the assistance of Indiana State Police Detectives and Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigators who are now leading the investigation.

The name of the victims have not yet been released. Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday morning in Salem.

Police are now looking for Richard Lee Burton Jr., 47, as a person of interest in the case. Burton was living at the home where the crime took place.

“Information received during the initial investigation reveals Richard Lee Burton Jr. could be involved in the deaths or could know something about the deaths of the three deceased victims inside of the home,” said an ISP statement. “He should also be considered armed and dangerous.”

Burton could be on the way to the Tennessee, Missouri or Texas, police said. He is believed to be driving a blue 1997 Dodge Ram 4×4 2500 extended cab pickup truck with possibly a black or dark blue camper shell.
