Huawei Nova, Nova Plus, and MediaPad M3 Launched at IFA 2016

Huawei at IFA 2016 on Thursday launched unveiled its Nova series of smartphones, with two offerings – the Nova and Nova Plus. The company alongside also unveiled the MediaPad M3.

The Huawei Nova has been priced at EUR 399 (roughly Rs. 29,800) while the Huawei Nova Plus has been priced at EUR 429 (roughly Rs. 32,000). The Huawei MediaPad M3 on the other hand has been priced at EUR 349 (roughly Rs. 26,100) for its 32GB Wi-Fi only version, EUR 399 (roughly Rs. 29,800) for its 64GB Wi-Fi only version and 32GB LTE version, and EUR 449 (roughly Rs. 37,300) for 64GB LTE version. The smartphones will be available in 50 markets from October, while the MediaPad M3 will go on sale in 14 countries from September 26.

The Huawei Nova and Nova Plus feature rather different designs, but both are built out of aircraft-grade aluminium, and both feature fingerprint sensors on the rear panel. While the Nova looks a little like the Huawei P9, the Nova Plus looks a little like the Huawei Mate S or the Huawei G9 Plus. Both will be available in Titanium Grey, Mystic Silver, and Prestige Gold variants.
The hybrid dual-SIM Nova runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the company’s EMUI 4.1 skin atop. It sports a 5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) IPS LCD display, and is powered by a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM. The smartphone sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture, and an 8-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

Huawei Nova comes with 32GB of inbuilt storage that’s expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB). It offers 4G LTE (Cat. 6) connectivity, a USB Type-C port, and a 3020mAh battery.

The Huawei Nova Plus (seen above) is said to be the international variant of the Huawei G9 Plus. It sports nearly identical specifications as the Nova, with some significant differences. The smartphone bears a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) IPS display, a 16-megapixel rear camera complete with OIS, as well as 4000mAh battery.

Coming to the Huawei MediaPad M3 – the aluminium body tablet (seen below) runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the EMUI 4.1 skin atop. It bears an 8.4-inch QHD (2560×1600 pixels) display, and is powered by an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 950 SoC (four cores at 2.3GHz and four cores at 1.8GHz) with 4GB of RAM.

As we mentioned, it will be available in a 64GB variant as well, apart from an LTE variant (via Nano-SIM card). Storage is expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB), and it bears a 8-megapixel front and rear cameras.

Huawei has partnered with Harmon/Kardon for the speakers and audio tech on board, including a built-in equaliser. The MediaPad M3 sports a fingerprint sensor on the home button.
