Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Reportedly Codenamed 'Baikal'

For Samsung, 2016 will be remembered as one of the worst years in the company’s smartphone business as it had to permanently discontinue the Galaxy Note 7 after multiple fire and explosion cases were reported by users. The debacle caused Samsung to take a hit of at least $5 billion (roughly Rs. 35,433 crores) since the third quarter. The issue was even claimed to force the company to consider killing the “Note” lineup completely, with no future smartphones to carry the iconic phablet brand. The company recently refuted such reports however, and now, a new report points at the codename of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

A new leak claims that Samsung’s next Galaxy Note phablet, likely to be unveiled as Galaxy Note 8, has been internally codenamed as ‘Baikal’. Unfortunately, no other details around the alleged Galaxy Note 8 are available at the moment. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 news, shared by a tipster, was first spotted by Android Pure.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 safety fiasco has no doubt been the company’s worst nightmare in history and if a new survey is to be believed, the fire incidents have made a major dent in Samsung’s brand image. According to a survey conducted in the US, 40 percent of existing Samsung smartphone users “won’t buy another phone from the brand.”
The South Korean consumer electronics giant last month announced that a faulty battery was behind Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fires based on the company’s internal and independent investigations.

For Samsung, a lot rides on the company’s upcoming Galaxy S8 which is expected to be unveiled next month and go on sale next month.
