Samsung Galaxy S7 Launch Expected at February 21 Unpacked Event

Samsung has finally announced its pre-MWC “Galaxy Unpacked 2016” event for February 21 at 7pm CET (11:30pm IST) in Barcelona, and has started sending media invites. The company in its teaser video says it will launch the “The Next Galaxy”, which is likely to be the long-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones. The video includes an image of a partially opened box with two glowing edges forming a “7”. Also shown is the company’s Samsung VR headset indicating there might be some news on that front as well.

Preliminary leaks and rumours indicated Samsung to be working on at least four Galaxy S7 models namely the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Plus, Galaxy S7 Edge, and Galaxy S7 Edge+. However, as we came closer to the MWC 2016 trade show event, the number of variants were cut down to just two models.

Until now, it has been tipped that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 will feature a 5.1-inch QHD display, 12-megapixel rear camera; 5-megapixel front-facing camera; 64GB inbuilt storage; 4GB of RAM, and Snapdragon 820 processor, which are in-line with an earlier report. The company is also expected to launch the smartphones with the Exynos 8890 SoC in some regions. Latest reports add that the handset will be able to run 17 hours of video playback at full brightness, suggesting an impressive battery life. The Galaxy S7 Edge is said to feature a larger 5.5-inch display.

Until now we’ve seen tech firms such as Sony, LG, and Gionee announcing their MWC 2016 keynote event dates. Xiaomi is also expected to introduce its Mi 5 flagship smartphone on February 24.
