Fortnite Battle Royale for Android and iOS Announced With PS4 and PC Cross-Platform Play

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Fortnite on mobile is the same game on consoles and PC
  • Players on different devices can play together
  • Access begins for iOS users from March 12

Fortnite Battle Royale is coming to Android and iOS. And what’s more is that it’s not like the pared down version of the smash hit game like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ (PUBG) mobile efforts via Tencent. Developer Epic Games took to its blog to explain what you can expect from Fortnite Battle Royale on Android and iOS.

On mobile devices, Fortnite is the same 100-player experience on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Epic claims that it will be the “same gameplay, same map, same content, same weekly updates.”

From March 12, players can sign up for an invite event on iOS. Android support is on the way in the next few months. To take part, you’ll need an Internet connection and iOS 11 on at least an iPhone 6S/SE, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, or iPad 2017 devices.

Perhaps what’s shocking is that Fortnite Battle Royale will support cross-platform play and cross progression. What this means is you and your friends can play together regardless of the device they’re using. That is of course if the device in question is anything but an Xbox One, Xbox One S, or Xbox One X. This is limited to PS4, PC, iOS, and eventually Android. This is possible, Epic says, through it’s partnership with Sony, which appears to leave those on the Xbox One family of consoles out of the action.

“We believe this is the future of games. The same game on all platforms. Console quality graphics and action. Play when you want, where you want,” the studio states.
